Getting to King Lewanika involves a light aircraft flight to the Kalabo Airstrip, then either a helicopter ride or a pontoon river crossing and drive across the beautiful Liuwa Plains National Park. It’s well worth the effort, however, when you catch your first glimpse of the sweeping plain, which in November plays host to the second largest wildebeest migration in Africa.
King Lewanika is nestled in a wooded area, backing onto the boma where lion were reintroduced to the park. The six incredibly stylish modern villas are built on raised platforms with views across the plain. One of the villas is family-friendly, accommodating you comfortably in two sumptuous bedrooms.
You can embark on night or day game drives with a local wildlife expert, as well as going by foot. In the emerald season, you can traverse the waterways by canoe along with a local guide to talk you through the wildlife, which includes not only lion and wildebeest, but hyena, cheetah and leopard as well.

Conservation
In 2019, Time + Tide, King Lewanika’s parent company, donated approximately US$160,000 to anti-poaching, human-wildlife conflict and ecological research across the four protected areas; over $500,000 to the Department of National Parks and Wildlife in Zambia; and $11,500 to environmental education and local conservation clubs.
Environment
Time + Tide has installed solar power, procures eco-charcoal, uses solar jars and has installed LED lights to help decrease the carbon emissions of their operations.
Community
The villages in and around the protected wildlife areas in which King Lewanika operates rely on tourism as the largest provider of economic opportunities. In order to fully leverage the benefits of tourism, Time + Tide has identified local suppliers within neighboring communities, with whom the company trades.
