Lion Camp
Lion Camp is a stylish safari lodge in a remote area of the park. It’s set on the bank of an ox bow lake and looking out onto grasslands, so animals come here to bathe and graze year round. There are no fences here, so elephant, buffalo, and antelope come and go as they please. You can watch them from your private deck or the board walk, and they may well be watching you as you swim in the pool. The camp prides itself on its support for conservation and local community development initiatives, including Conservation South Luangwa and the Chipembele Wildlife Education Centre.
The camp accommodates 18 guests in canvas chalets with thatched roofs, each raised on an individual wooden platform. You’ll sleep in a four poster king size bed, and the en suite bathroom has a shower and toilet.
Communal areas for guests include an infinity pool, a bar with an open fireplace, a library, and the restaurant where you’ll take your evening meals. Food is prepared freshly by the chef on site, and during the day you will often have a picnic and snacks to take with you as you explore the park.

Conservation
Partnering with Conservation South Luangwa (CSL) who proudly run Zambia’s first detection dog unit, Lion Camp help with the extensive human-wildlife conflict mitigation initiatives and law enforcement programmes in the area. Research and the mitigation of threats to all large carnivore species are assisted through monitoring, hands-on de-snaring, education and training by CSL.
Environment
The camp’s eco-footprint has been maintained, causing minimal damage to the vegetation in and around the camp. The lodge’s rebuild has been completed using Rhinowood walkways and decks, a fully sustainable wood product. All removed wood such as Mukwa and Rosewood have been recycled into furniture. The wood-burning “donkeys” have been replaced with more efficient gas burners, and an advanced water purifying plant has been installed to purify all borehole water on site. The camp offers 24 hours of electricity and is entirely self-sufficient.
Community
Lion Camp partners with a local farmer, Thomson Zulu, who grows all of the camps vegetables, salad produce and herbs allowing them to serve fresh ingredients in their remote location and helps Thomas support his nine children with his thriving business. The camp is also actively involved with the Mkasanga school, located in the community where most of the camps staff are from. Furthermore, they are engaged in several upliftment projects, one of which being the development of a computer facility at the school.
