The resident vet at Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge in Rwanda had just paid a visit to the Titus gorilla family when she received a call from one of the trackers asking her to return immediately as one of the females appeared to be in distress. Dawn rushed back as quickly as possible, but on her way received yet another radio call to say that the female, known as Imvune, had given birth! The sex of the baby has not yet been confirmed as he or she is still very small and sleepy. Imvune is keeping her baby very close for now and their bonding time should not be interupted. Both Dawn the vet and the camp’s trackers are very excited to see how the baby gets on its new world in the next few months. Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is one of the best places for gorilla based safari holidays. It might be a cliché but a gorilla trek is a once in a lifetime experience that you will never forget. During the trek you will be accompanied a local guide who has lived in the forest his entire life and is very knowledgeable about gorilla behaviour. You will get to observe these gentle giants as they go about their daily lives in their natural habitat. The way these creatures interact with one another in their close family units is a real joy to see. At the lodge gorilla tourism provides work for the local people to help meet the economic objectives of the area as well as the conservation targets for the mountain gorilla species. You can visit the community projects and meet the local people as well as enjoying the gorillas during your stay.
