Location

Set within the wild, remote and untouched Hoanib River valley in Kaokoland, Haonib Valley Camp’s striking location is characterised by rugged mountains and expansive gravel plains, punctuated occasionally by gently rolling dunes. As a joint venture with local communities and the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, its location not only provides incredible opportunities to observe desert-adapted elephants and rare giraffe, but also a chance to glimpse the heritage of indigenous peoples.

Hoanib Valley Camp offers an intimate and eco-conscious luxury experience through just six elegantly designed en-suite guest tents, including one dedicated family tent. Each tent is built on a raised composite deck crafted from locally sourced wood, bamboo, and recycled materials to minimise environmental impact. The design reflects a minimalistic yet refined aesthetic: interiors are adorned with earth-toned decor inspired by the rich ochres of the surrounding dunes and complemented by bespoke furnishings created by local Rundu carpenters and Himba artisans.

Expansive private verandas allow guests to savour uninterrupted views of the Hoanib River valley while enjoying the comforts of modern living withing an authentically intrepid vibe. Even the ensuite bathrooms successfully blend luxury with a sense of place and adventure.

The heart of the camp is its expansive canvas-walled lounge and dining area, a space that invites guests to enjoy camaraderie and conversations inspired by their excursions of the day. Stepping outside, guests find beautifully arranged decked seating areas providing unobstructed views of the Hoanib River valley and the rugged desert beyond, encouraging. When staying at Hoanib Valley Camp, you will be making a direct contribution towards their desert-dwelling giraffe conservation project. The project focuses on further understanding giraffe species to help conserve their natural habitats throughout Namibia.

Community

Natural Selection supports the nearby Sesfontein Boarding School by supplying beds for the children and supplies for the teachers to continue their vital work.

Environment

As of 2020, Natural Selection, Hoanib Valley Camp’s parent company has been working with the Sesfontein community who live nearby to Hoanib Valley Camp, to upgrade the existing dumpsite to improve efficiencies and create a recycling depot for the area.
