Karabezi, Lake Kariba
Location
Today, the lake provides power to local communities and is a life-source for the creatures of Matusadona National Park that lies on its shores. You’ll be in an excellent location for game viewing as animals often head toward the water to eat and drink. Bird life is prolific here too, with the African fish eagle (the country’s national bird) being one of the most popular sightings.
Accommodation
You’re never short of places to relax on The Karabezi. Inside there’s the lounge and cocktail bar where you can gather in the evening, chatting and reminiscing about what you’ve seen that day.
When you’re not enjoying meals al fresco on the shore, you’ll eat in the boat’s spacious dining room, admiring the panoramic views over the lake as you dine.
- Spend an afternoon fishing on the lake (one of the continent’s best spots!), seeking out the famed, striped tiger fish that live in the waters here.
- Hop into a smaller boat for game-viewing outings, spotting the elephant and buffalo that roam the plains here, perhaps even accompanied by a lion or two.
- Sunset and sunrise are the most atmospheric times to be on the lake, enjoy them from a small boat with a hot drink or cocktail close by.
- Indulge in a delicious barbecue on the lake’s sandy shores, the perfect leisurely lunch.
- Stop off at a local fishing village to learn more about the traditions of the area and what daily life looks like here.

From mysterious baobab groves, to the arid sands of Hwange, the balancing rocks of Matobo, and the awesome Zambezi River as it rages over Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe is a country that serves up all that could be hoped for in an African holiday destination.
There are few other safari destinations that offer the sheer diversity of landscapes that Zimbabwe does. The cascading waters of Victoria Falls and forested banks of the Zambezi River contrast with the arid open plains of Hwange and the rugged mountain terrain of Matusadona. Together, they create a completely unique safari experience.
