Location
Leroo La Tau sits on the banks of the once dry Boteti River, in an ever changing riparian environment. Set within Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, one of the largest salt flats in the world, the reserve is on the northeastern edge of the Kalahari Desert, making for arid, grassy landscapes dotted with groves of green trees.

Accommodation
Emerging from the cliffside is a luxurious lodge with 12 thatched and glass-fronted suites. Each light and airy chalet consists of a spacious bedroom area, a well-equipped en-suite and a viewing deck to the rear, with a spectacular outlook across the riverbanks and beyond to the national park.
When you’re not out combing the banks of the Boteti for game, or captivated by the migrating zebra you can see from your room, the main area of the lodge offers a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.

The main lounge and dining area allows you to relax at the bar while listening to the wide variety of night sounds so characteristic of the African bush. Alternatively, you can lounge around the swimming pool or enjoy the panoramic river vista from the game-viewing hide built into the bank of the river.

Experiences
  • Leroo La Tau translates as ‘lion’s paw’ and although the reserve is home to lion, zebra and wildebeest, it also boasts Chobe bushbuck, leopard, cheetah, brown and spotted hyena, impala, kudu, jackal, porcupine, genet and caracal, to name but a few.

  • Hop into an open 4x4 vehicle with expert guides for morning and afternoon game drives in the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park.
  • In the dark of the night, uncover the animals that inhabit Leroo La Tau’s private concession on a thrilling night drive.

  • Depending on water levels, take to the river for a boat trip to get a different perspective of the animals that line the reed-filled banks of the Boteti.
  • Take a culturally enriching excursion to the nearby Khumaga Village and get a taste of local life in the place where many of the hotel's saff live.

  • If you’re staying more than three nights, opt for a trip to the awe inspiring Nxai salt pan and Baines Baobabs, a cluster of ancient and enormous baobab trees in the middle of the salt flats.

  • For those looking for a truly unique experience and staying for three nights or more, enjoy dining and sleeping in solitude on the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, beneath thousands of sparkling stars.

Conservation
Conservation
There are a number of conservation projects that Desert & Delta (D&D), owners of Savute Safari Lodge, Camp Okavango, Camp Xakanaxa and Leroo La Tau are involved with. A couple of key projects are the rhino reintroduction and relocation program and Elephants for Africa who aim to conserve and educate to ensure a future for wild populations of African elephant and move towards humans and wildlife coexisting.
Environment
D&D run multiple environmentally-friendly projects from glass crushing, giving them the ability to recycle into other uses, the implementation of a biogas food waste plant and a grey water treatment plant that reduces water waste throughout their camps.
Community
Community
D&D have great initiatives to support the community. Nearby Khamaga Primary School benefits directly with financial support, meals and catering, sponsored career days, educational visits to lodges and ongoing opportunities in tourist engagement and infrastructural support. Most of the staff at Leroo La Tau are local and the team is looked after very well, meaning staff retention is high.
