Sausage Tree Camp
Location
It’s an unfenced camp, so wildlife can wander in relatively from the surrounding area, which means the Lower Zambezi National Park. Beyond the islands is the border with Zimbabwe and a further protected area—the Mana Pools National Park.
Given its remote location, the easiest way to get to Sausage Tree Camp is to fly. From the Jeki airstrip to the camp is a one-hour game drive, so you’ll arrive having already had an adventure.
Accommodation
For groups and families, the ideal choice of accommodation is Kegelia House, which benefits from an extra-large open-plan living area and a large dining table for those unforgettable meals with great food and a superb view. Whatever you opt for in terms of accommodation, expect a king-size bed, a smooth stone tub, an outdoor shower, and even – if you want one – a butler.
Experiences
- Game drives in state-of-the-art open-sided off-road vehicles will enable you to experience an environment teeming with wildlife in a beautiful setting. Private drives, even for one person, are available.
- One of the attractions of Zambia as a safari destination is that it permits night drives within its national parks. With red-filtered spotlights, a whole new array of creatures is revealed.
- Glide down the network of the Zambezi’s many channels in a canoe. Tranquil and relaxing, it also gives a new vantage point from which to observe wildlife.
- Head out onto the waters with the aim of landing a fish. Perhaps it will be an enormous tigerfish.
- Meal locations are varied and exciting at Sausage Tree Camp. Perhaps have lunch at a table in the water of the river or dinner on a sandbar beneath the starlit heavens.
- Despite the wonderful food, there’s no excuse for putting on the pounds. In addition to the 25-metre pool, there’s a large and well-equipped gym.

It’s also an experience of how African exploration always used to be, with bush camps deep in game-rich territory and walking safaris led by expert guides. Authenticity can still be comfortable, so amazing food and perfectly-placed accommodation are just as Zambian as the wilderness.
