Somalisa Camp is located in the heart of park near the Kennedy Vlei line, which is known to be one of the finest areas for sighting big herds of plains game and predators.

The camp comprises seven spacious tented rooms each set on a large area of teak decking which extends to form a wide veranda at the front, where you can relax in comfortable chairs in privacy and enjoy uninterrupted views to a waterhole and across the bush.

Each room has an en-suite bathroom, proper beds and safari furniture and the camp provides guests with the sense that they are in an adventurous environment yet with a good degree of comfort.

This extends to the standard of cuisine and the large decking area with its lounge and pool where you can watch elephant, giraffe, antelope and other creatures whilst taking a dip between safaris.

Somalisa’s expert guides take you on safari by open vehicle; both during the day and after dark with a spotlight and you can also enjoy walks escorted by an armed guard and game viewing from hides.

Conservation

Somalisa’s parent company, African Bush Camp’s (ABC) philosophy is: by coexisting with wildlife to grow crop yields and protecting livestock to preserve the environment, communities can improve their food security without negatively impacting wildlife. With projects that aim to improve the perception and tolerance of wildlife in the area, ABC helps rural communities restore a harmonious relationship with nature for their benefit.

Environment

ABC’s properties are committed to operating in a sustainable manner, ensuring the preservation Africa’s fragile environment, culture and conservation. The energy source at Somalisa is solar and they have implemented low energy lighting systems, wastewater treatment, grey water recycling, and single use plastic reduction initiatives.

Community

Located in Hwange National Park, Main Camp Primary School, like many other schools in Zimbabwe, suffers from health-related issues. Through contributing to the infrastructure of age-appropriate bathrooms, running water and fencing around the school, ABC’s goal is to help create a learning environment which can offer safer facilities for all of the school’s pupils.
