Victoria Falls Hotel
Location
The falls themselves are just a ten-minute walk along the hotel’s private path. Wake up to the sound of ‘the smoke that thunders’, see the sun rise beneath the mist of one of the seven natural wonders of the world and the lunar rainbow at night, all the while soaking up the history and ambience of a bygone era.
Accommodation
Built in 1904 and thus one of the oldest hotels in Africa, it is steeped in history and despite extensive refurbishments over the years has retained the distinguished and elegant style of its earliest incarnation.
Leisure facilities include floodlit tennis courts, a billiard room and outdoor chess. The swimming pool area incorporates four summer houses, where you’ll find a light snack menu and bar waiter service. You can also opt to drink or dine in one of the hotel’s elegant restaurants or atmospheric bars, all of which are decorated in a period style. Even if you are not staying at Victoria Falls Hotel, you must pop in for afternoon tea. It is, of course, served in the finest porcelain tea cups, with a selection of finger sandwiches and freshly made scones and cakes.
Experiences
- Soar over the falls in a helicopter, admiring them from above (the views are so beautiful from up here that it’s known as the Flight of Angels) and making the most of your unrivalled photo opportunity.
Spend an exhilarating, action-packed day white water rafting along the Zambezi - spray in the air and a beaming grin on your face, this is an electrifying experience.- Alongside a specialist guide, tour the falls, learning more about the famous bridge and the revolutionary engineering required to build it over a century ago.
For something a little more leisurely, take a lazy boat cruise along the water, watching as the sunset colours the skies in bright shades of red and orange.
If you’re a serious thrill seeker, head to the top of the famous Victoria Falls Bridge for a 111m bungee jump over the roaring Zambezi River.

From mysterious baobab groves, to the arid sands of Hwange, the balancing rocks of Matobo, and the awesome Zambezi River as it rages over Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe is a country that serves up all that could be hoped for in an African holiday destination.
There are few other safari destinations that offer the sheer diversity of landscapes that Zimbabwe does. The cascading waters of Victoria Falls and forested banks of the Zambezi River contrast with the arid open plains of Hwange and the rugged mountain terrain of Matusadona. Together, they create a completely unique safari experience.
