John Burdett set up Africa Exclusive in 1990 with his wife Susan. During the last 30 years the company has become one of the world's leading specialist safari tour operators. John says, "Building Africa Exclusive has enabled me to indulge my love of Africa and the opportunity to share its beauty with thousands of other people."
Many years ago (!) as a twenty something employee in the Travel Industry I first experienced the magic of the African continent. Since that visit I have returned to Africa on countless occasions, each time eager to head off into the bush for a remote and sometimes luxurious safari. Communing with nature by a river, or straining all your senses as you walk quietly in the company of a superb guide tracking wildlife, Africa is the ultimate destination for a holiday full of lifetime memories!
Passionate and determined sums me up pretty well. Riding an elephant beside the Zambezi at 14 ignited a love affair with Africa that just keeps growing. Since then, this amazing travel company which my family set up has been in my blood. I'm determined to keep driving it forwards so you can experience the Africa that I adore and play our part protecting its precious wildlife.
Paul Hawley lives and breathes Africa. He has fished the Zambezi, walked with the San Bushmen of the Kalahari, trekked the Chimpanzees of Mahale, ridden horses amongst the herds in the foothills of Kilimanjaro, tracked leopard on foot in Mana Pools, flown over Victoria Falls by helicopter, explored Namibia’s infamous Skeleton Coast and proposed at sunset on Christmas Day at the top of a rocky Kopje in Kenya. Spectacular African experiences such as these continue to shape his life now.
Ross Cambray’s love for Africa began on a 10-week journey through South Africa several years ago. His travels have taken him back to the Rainbow Nation, to the banks of the Zambezi River in Zambia, the depths of the Okavango Delta in Botswana, many different parks and reserves in Kenya, through the heart of beautiful Madagascar and even up to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
Whether enjoying the comforts of a sublime luxury lodge in Botswana watching elephant wander by or submerged in the depths of the Ugandan rainforest face to face with mountain gorillas, Emily loves the effortless combination of heart racing wildlife experiences and luxurious accommodation. She expertly creates authentic African adventures for clients whilst ensuring the highest levels of comfort and exclusivity.
I sold my first safari holiday over 20 years ago and from then I was hooked! I found a job I loved and I can honestly say, I have never ‘worked’ another day! I love that I get to co-ordinate fantastic holidays to some amazing places for our clients and no holiday is ever the same, so every day is like a different adventure for me.
I love my role, because even though I effectively ‘do’ the same support role for each client, the distinctness of their holidays means that my working life is forever varied and endlessly interesting; I am lucky enough to expand my knowledge of the world as I work.
