Location
Camp Kalahari, sits among groves of waving palm and acacia trees on the edge of the once water-covered flats of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans. Depending on the season, the tall grasses surrounding the camp may be brittle and tawny or luscious and vibrant. Along with the shrubs, the rest of the landscape varies wildly from the dry to the green season, attracting multifarious wildlife.

Accommodation
Laidback and uncomplicated, the camp has twelve spacious Meru style tents, raised above the desert sands on wooden platforms. Two of these can accommodate a group or family of four, with tents that interconnect through the bathroom.

All dwellings are comfortably but traditionally furnished, with light textiles giving an airy feel. Cross the wooden floors topped with patterned Moroccan rugs and you’ll find an en-suite bathroom, with both an indoor and outdoor shower where you can wash off the day immersed in the sounds of nature.
When you’re not out exploring the prehistoric salt flats, make use of the camp’s main area which includes a lounge and dining area decorated with local crafts and campaign furniture. Open-sided, the structure welcomes the scorched desert scenery inside during the day, while during the evening it provides respite from the chilly Kalahari air.

Alongside the main building, there’s a small boma (traditional campfire) ideal to gather around and share stories as a blanket of stars sparkles above. Head to the outskirts of the camp for a dip in the tranquil pool, or laze in the dappled sunlight on the loungers positioned underneath a thatched covering.

Conservation
Conservation
Near the end of an extreme drought in northern Botswana, ten game waterholes inside and bordering the Makgadikgadi National Park were in severe disrepair from theft and wear and tear. Natural Selection, Camp Kalahari’s parent company, were responsible for replacing and repairing all solar pumps in order to support the migrating animals in this area.

Young children with early onset vision impairment can experience delayed motor, language, emotional, social and cognitive development, with lifelong consequences. Wild Vision and Natural Selection have worked together to address this challenge in rural areas of Botswana by bringing efficient on-site eye testing and eyeglass distribution to remote schools. The positive impact of this initiative has been tremendous.

Natural Selection are working with the Wild Shots Outreach initiative. Every year they will be running workshops at some Natural Selection camps. This is an initiative that engages with unemployed youth from disadvantaged communities, teaching them about conservation and nature through photography, culminating in a game drive.
