To stay at Chem Chem is to live and breathe in tune with the age-old patterns of nature. You might wake to a herd of giraffe foraging among the trees outside your raised suite, enjoy views of wildebeest grazing just beyond the pool during an afternoon dip, or even fall asleep to the calling of lion prides in the distance. Annual flamingo migrations mark the season when the waters turn pink with their honking arrival. Once you’re here, you’ll feel an innate connection to both the land and its many creatures.
The design of the tented suites is subtle and immersive, with natural materials of wood, canvas, and rock blending seamlessly with the fern-fringed arid salt pan and beyond. You’ll have the option of soaking your cares away in a tub or invigorating your senses in your outdoor shower. What better way to keep fit than watching antelope play outside of the lodge’s open-sided gym? Privacy is paramount here; your nearest neighbour is over 80 metres away. Families are accommodated in a separate suite with its own children’s annex, ready for groups of up to two adults and three children aged six and over.
Should you want to go explore in a novel way, Chem Chem offers a variety of ways to do so. Join the birds in a hot-air balloon or even on a helicopter flight, watching herds of elephant meander through the bush hundreds of feet below you. Cultural walks and visits with the local Maasai people are also available, as are trips into the nearby Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Parks. Lakeside sundowners are particularly fascinating, as you watch as birds skim the surface for fish under the fading, fiery sun.
