Cottar's 1920s Safari Camp

Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp is our favourite property for a truly exclusive family safari in the Masai Mara. Located outside the national reserve on a private conservancy, Cottar’s combines authentic style, inspired guiding, immersive activities and fantastic attention to detail. All of which creates an unforgettable African safari.

The four family suites provide stylish comfort in the wilds of Kenya. There is space to spread out among the two expansive bedrooms and lounge. The decor is tastefully vintage and there is even a fireplace around which to recount your adventures. When you’re not exploring, the two communal tents offer space to relax, read and enjoy a drink. Enjoy fine dining service, with tasty options for the fussiest eaters. The pool is a rarity in the Mara, tempting all ages to enjoy a refreshing afternoon swim.

Each day, you’ll attune yourselves to nature’s clock. Join the birds for a sunrise balloon safari over ambling herds, before touching down for breakfast in the bush. Afterwards, your guide will take you on a kid-friendly walking safari. Afternoons are perfect for children to cast out for fish or swim under a waterfall, while parents lean back with a glass of fizz in a canvas bush bath. Head out for sundowners before spotting nocturnal creatures on the drive back to camp for dinner. Top off the day counting stars, nodding off with dreams of what tomorrow will bring.

The whole family will love Cottar’s Maasai Warrior School, a special interactive safari with a strong educational flavour. Under the tutelage of their ‘Moran’, or warriors, the whole family will discover what it takes to survive in the wilds of Kenya. You will become an expert in tracking wildlife, deciphering the footprints of elephant and leopard. See who can throw their spear the furthest, before visiting a traditional Maasai village, maybe even joining a traditional dance!
