Laikipia Wilderness Camp

From the time you arrive, owners Steve and Annabelle Carey embrace you into their safari family. They invite you to make their home in the wilds of northern Kenya your own. This is the place to reconnect with nature on an authentic bush camp adventure.

Here you’ll find six canvas tents, four of which are perfect for families. With a double bed and four twins, one extra-large suite even has space for a family of six! You will enjoy breakfasts on the dining deck, with stunning valley views. The Careys ensure your stay is sustainable: electricity is solar, fresh salads picked daily, and fruits and meat sourced locally. From their humble charcoal oven, you’ll enjoy some of the best pizzas, breads and cakes in Kenya.

Rest assured, you’ll not hear a single utterance of ‘I’m bored’, throughout your stay! In fact, we’re certain your children won’t want to leave after days of rafting past elephants, rope swings, fishing and mud fights in the river. You’ll see the most wildlife on game drives—the Big Five, zebra, giraffe and antelope are all abundant. Your guides know the best spots for you to hop out and capture ground-level photos. With Steve, you may have the unforgettable opportunity to sit among a curious pack of wild dogs or catch a rare glimpse of the resident melanistic leopard!

Steve himself will take you on the best walking safaris you’ve had. Sharing his 25 years' guiding expertise, he will teach you to follow nature’s wild signs of paw prints and droppings to track and find wildlife. Gentler walks for little feet are taken along the river to collect bones and feathers for crafts. For something more intrepid, enjoy a multi-day walking safari. Travel each day to your next fly-camp, falling asleep beneath a blanket of stars to a cicada serenade.

Extend your stay with the Careys, spending a few days at their mobile camp in Meru National Park. The camp is set up just for you, with spacious tents and proper beds. Being so remote, Meru can accommodate guests from age six. The setting is a tropical glade of fig, mahogany and palm trees—a dazzling contrast to Laikipia's rocky escarpments. Rise early to spot Meru’s waking creatures, pausing for a hot bush breakfast of fried eggs, bacon and fresh juice. Afternoons are for fishing, swimming, or simple hammock siestas to the chirping tune of rare birds.
