For families, there is the more exclusive Little Madikwe on an adjoining site. This luxurious two bedroom private lodge enables parents and children to have their own separate bedrooms which are set off the very spacious main lounge area. Each bedroom has an en suite bathroom, in addition to which there are outdoor showers for those wanting to shower “under the stars”. The main lounge is attractively furnished with a large dining table, comfortable soft chairs and, if you want it, satellite TV and a DVD player. The entire suite is under an immense thatched roof and outside there is a spacious wooden deck into which is set a sizable pool. Guests at Little Madikwe can dine in the suite or in the main lodge, as they prefer, and of course have full access to the spa and other facilities at the main lodge.
Little Madikwe also has its own private safari guide and vehicle which is available to take you game viewing whenever you wish for as long as you like. You can spend part of your time exploring this large game reserve in this open vehicle seeking out the larger herds, visiting isolated waterholes and, after the sun has set, you can spend some time exploring the reserve at night with a spotlight, looking for nocturnal creatures.
Short walks can also be enjoyed as you wander along old elephant tracks, following the course of rivers, observing tracks in the dust, reaching out and touching plants and cautiously tracking animals. Your guide will explain fascinating aspects of bush-craft and show you how the birds, animals, smaller creatures, trees and plants co-operate together to maintain the fragile balance of the eco system.
The Junior Rangers programme offers specially tailored activities for the younger members of your family. On arrival, they'll receive their own 'lucky packet' that contains all of the items they'll need for a magical safari experience. Staff members will help children become their favourite animal, complete with fancy dress, face painting, and exciting facts. Treasure hunts, movie nights, dung investigation and clay modelling will keep them wildly entertained for the whole of their time on safari.
