Very much a private home, Mkombe’s House will sleep four adults and six children in comfort. Each room has an en-suite bathroom. It is the perfect retreat for families, with a large swimming pool and children’s pool, flexible and child-friendly menus, and cots, high chairs, and car seats can be provided. Rooms are light and open, beautifully styled, and looking out onto some of the most impressive views in the Serengeti.
Mkombe’s House is a small, intimate property, so you’ll have the place to yourself and be able to completely dictate the day’s schedule according to your personal whims. Guests have a private guide, who will accompany you on game drives and, for the over 12s, guided walks. Picnic breakfasts and lunches can be taken outside, kids love scrambling over the rocks looking for lizards and hyrax, and there are an almost infinite number of beautiful places where you can enjoy your sundowner. You’ll feel completely at home at Mkombe’s House, and will probably not want to leave.
Equally stunning is the location. This Tanzanian section of the Mara River is a special part of the Serengeti and one of the best-kept secrets of Africa – it hosts large concentrations of wildlife all year round and is less well known and far less visited than the Masai Mara on the Kenyan side of the river. It affords the rare opportunity for secluded game drives well away from the principle tourist circuits further south.
