Nxamaseri Island Lodge

A stay at Nxamaseri Island Lodge takes you into the most remote part of the Okavango Delta, to the panhandle of this vast waterway. Over the years, this unique island lodge has been a celebrated fishing spot, but it’s also become a perfect addition to the traditional Delta safari. Not only can you paddle along the water by mokoro and explore the island on foot, but you can head for the Tsodilo Hills in search of the ancient artwork that adorns this impressive site.

Accommodation

Tucked away amongst the trees, with open air dining and the lull of flowing water; you can’t help but feel completely connected with nature at Nxamaseri Island Lodge.

Wooden boardwalks lead out from the main camp area to nine individual chalets with private decks overlooking the water and surrounding floodplains. Warm, ochre tones and local artwork celebrate the heritage of the surrounding community, whilst natural materials from wicker lamp shades to driftwood art gives homage to the wilderness of the island.

Location

Nxamaseri is located at the panhandle of the Okavango Delta, amongst permanent waterways, which surround the island lodge. It is one of Southern Africa's premier fly-fishing and birding destinations.

The region is particularly good for spotting water bird species including Pel's fishing owl, african skimmer, white-backed night heron, slaty egret and wattled crane. Hippo is seen regularly and the largest crocodiles of the Okavango are found here. You also have the chance of encountering the rare and elusive sitatunga antelope.

Experiences

Fishing in the channels for the chance to catch tigerfish, pike and catfish is highly recommended. Join a guided walk or boat trip to experience the excellent birding. Nxamaseri is also the closest lodge to Tsodilo Hills, which boasts a rich collection of over three thousand San rock paintings. Being in a community area, there is also the opportunity to spend time in rural villages and to learn about their traditions and culture.
