SAND RIVERS SELOUS FLY CAMPING

The Selous Reserve in southern Tanzania is the world’s largest unspoilt game reserve covering an area in excess of 55,000 sq. km. This is mighty scenery with towering hills, dry river valleys, rich areas of forest, open savannah plains, lakes and rivers. Sand Rivers Selous is located on a sweeping curve on the banks of the great Rufiji River and each of the eight cottages and suites has views across this beautiful waterway.
Fly camping provides the opportunity for a night or two camping out under the stars. You will generally depart from the lodge early in the morning and head out to the campsite, which will have been set up by staff from the lodge in advance and which will be your base for sleeping.
You will have the opportunity to explore the area on foot, always accompanied by an armed and knowledgeable guide, before returning to camp for a sundowner and dinner around the fire.
Bedding is on bedrolls on the sand under mosquito nets, nothing obscures your view of the night sky as you go to sleep, and it is not unusual to wake up with elephant drinking at the river in the quiet dawn, just downstream from you. It is an unforgettable experience.
