The camp is located in a small clearing on the banks of the gently flowing Selinda Spillway. There are just four spacious and elegantly furnished Bedouin style tents, each with a bedroom, dressing area and en-suite bathroom complete with outdoor shower. The camp is reminiscent of the style of early explorers and the main area is covered in Persian style furnishings, with huge cushions and hammocks strung from trees providing the perfect place to relax in between safari adventures. In the evening a campfire is lit on the banks of the spillway and delicious dinners are enjoyed under a star filled Africa sky.
As the name suggests, a stay at Selinda Explorers is about fun and adventures and as well as exciting game drives you can go walking through the reserve, tracking animals on foot or perhaps take to the waters of the spillway in a canoe, offering a very different view of the reserve. The spillway is very shallow in front of the camp and a ‘quick dip’ provides the perfect respite from the midday sun. Guests have the services of a guide, chef, camp manager and a number of camp staff, who are all there to perfectly tailor each day and the type and duration of activities is decided by the guests' preferences and by whatever diversions are encountered on each occasion.
During the period June to September, the rising waters of the Spillway often flood part of the area. This cycle keeps the area fertile and with the vegetation supports a good range of plains game and numerous predators plus marvellous bird life. Pods of yawning hippopotamus and crocodiles inhabit part of the Spillway and game drives are fruitful with a multiplicity of antelope, Burchell's zebra, southern giraffe, blue wildebeest, impressive herds of elephant and buffalo to be seen.
Predator viewing is exceptional including the hippo-killing lion prides of Selinda, leopard, wild dog and cheetah. As Selinda is a private concession one of the special attractions is to take exciting night drives when your guide will use a spotlight to look for nocturnal creatures and if fortunate witness a hunt.
