If you were to conceive and build from scratch the most extraordinary, child friendly property imaginable, the chances are that you would come up with a lodge like &Beyond Xudum Okavango. Children of all ages are welcome - which is not always the case in Botswana’s unfenced camps - and from the moment they arrive they will be exhilarated by the tree house like design of the suites, the wildness of the surroundings, and the almost endless selection of activities. Be warned, however: once you have checked in, your kids will never want to leave and you will have to drag them home kicking and screaming.
Xudum Okavango is a small and intimate property with just nine air conditioned suites. These are available individually, but the size of the property also makes it a great choice for extended families or groups of friends wanting to travel together and have exclusive use of a lodge. Every suite has its own private plunge pool, indoor and outdoor showers, and a fabulous two tier structure. You can climb up onto the roof platform via the curved wooden staircase to enjoy a coffee with a view, or to sleep outside, cooled by the evening breeze.
The activity schedule at Xudum Okavango is tailored to individual families, so the activities are always age appropriate and fitting for your interests. Highlights you can enjoy together include day and night time game drives, bush walks, birding, and canoe safaris, plus motorboat excursions and fishing. Kids can also join &Beyond’s fantastic WILDChild programme, which includes all manner of experiences designed to help them learn about and appreciate the natural world. One morning they might go tracking with a bushman; the next they might be collecting leaf litter and identifying beetles, or joining the chef for a cookery workshop in the kitchen.
