Angling on Lake Victoria
One of the most well-equipped areas for fishing is the southern port of Lake Victoria — known as Mwanza. This is where you will have the opportunity to fish for Tilapia and Nile Perch. Lake Victoria has a shoreline measuring 3500 kilometres in length and over 3000 islands dotted about it. Some of these islands are inhabited.
Lake Tanganyika: Africa's second largest freshwater lake
Another great fishing destination in Tanzania is Lake Tanganyika. Tanganyika is the second largest freshwater lake in Africa and it is where you will find the Goliath Tigerfish and over 350 species of fish, as well as over two thousand animal and plant species. Approximately 600 of these are unique to this area.
Fish the Rufiji River
The largest river in Tanzania is the Rufiji River. Freshwater fishing enthusiasts have a choice of 21 lakes within the Rufiji floodplain to go fishing. These lakes yield excellent catches after they have received their annual floods. Saltwater fishing is also available near the Rufiji coast. Prawn fishing is good on the sandbanks of the Rufiji Delta.
