Ride4Rangers

Supporting 5,000 African rangers and their families
It is no secret that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all sectors of business globally, not least the travel industry. Across Africa the halt of travel 'pressed pause' on the funding of national parks, private concessions and conservation initiatives, and left thousands without income to support their families.

For 30 years, we have championed the role that high-end safaris play in helping Africa's wildlife and wild places. The first line of defence are the dedicated rangers who work tirelessly to protect them. Without funds from tourism in the form of park fees and levies, their livelihoods have been jeopardised.

We are taking part in Ride4Rangers to support Tusk in raising funds and awareness for these conservation heroes. We invite you to join us and the African Travel Industry to cycle a collective 30,000km — the length of circumnavigating Africa — to support African rangers and the wildlife they protect.

We hope that you'll join us in supporting this amazing cause, whether by your own pedal power or sponsoring those taking part.

How We Got Involved

Many of our team showed their love and passion for Africa by dedicating their runs, walks and cycling to Ride4Rangers.

"This is such a great initiative and I'm proud to support Africa's rangers by dedicating my walks to Ride4Rangers. I've loved wildlife for as long as I can remember and I know that I, and every one of my colleagues, will wholeheartedly do any small bit that we can to help protect our planet's most precious and magnificent creatures."

— Mackenzie Bianco, Marketing Executive
"Seeing wildlife thrive in their natural habitat is one of the most humbling experiences. It is wonderful to see the African tourism industry come together to support those who protect these environments and the wildlife that make safaris possible. I love cycling anyway, so getting involved wasn't even a question!"

— Alex Harmat, Marketing Manager
"Having been to Africa a number of times, I can say from experience that conservation and rangers are crucial to the safari experience. They have so much pride in their work, which is immediately clear when you meet them. Initiatives like Ride4Rangers are important to making sure that we help out those who dedicate their lives to protecting wildlife."

How You Can Get Involved

1. Donate

All funds raised will support the salaries and deployment of African rangers during this crisis. Not only that, but every donation is being matched by the Scheinberg Relief Fund, doubling your contribution. Here's how your support could help:

  • £100 could purchase a GPS enabled camera to monitor wildlife

  • £200 could fund a Lion Guard Ranger's salary for a month

  • £250 could provide materials to build a predator-proof livestock enclosure

  • £500 could sponsor a 4-man anti-poaching team in the field for a month

2. Join the Ride

First, decide how you would like to join. Organise a cycle with friends or family locally — 5km, 10km, 50km — it's up to you! You could also walk, swim, kayak or horse ride. Anything you do is appreciated.

In order for your rides to count toward the Ride 4 Rangers 30,000km total, they need to be logged on the Strava app and you need to be a member of the Ride 4 Rangers Strava club. Read the Strava App Instructions here.
3. Spread the Word

You may not be able to join the challenge physically, but that's okay. Helping spread the word about Ride4Rangers is just as valuable and important — we have created a JustGiving page where you can donate. This can also be shared on social media.

If you get involved and join the ride, we would love to see and share! Tag us in your posts — we're @AfricaExclusive.
