A MALARIA FREE SAFARI IN SOUTH AFRICA

Modern anti-malarial medication means that children and adults can enjoy a safari anywhere in Africa usually free from side effects. If you prefer to not take medication, South Africa has all the continent’s malaria free wildlife reserves. They are located in a rich diversity of landscapes and provide a wealth of exciting game viewing. Madikwe, Tswalu and Waterberg are in spectacular northern settings, while others are conveniently located in the Eastern Cape near the coast.

November to March can be dark and miserable in the northern hemisphere. That’s when Cape Town and the Garden Route are bathed in sunshine. If you’d like us to arrange your family’s escape to the Cape, we might suggest that you simply continue along the Garden Route and take a malaria free safari in the Eastern Cape. This is a natural habitat for all the Big Five and reserves like Kwandwe and Shamwari offer exciting safaris and a wide variety of very comfortable accommodation styles.

If you feel like spreading your wings and exploring a different part of the country, we’ll take you north to the drier plains and spectacular hills near Botswana and the winding Limpopo River. Madikwe is the largest of the malaria free reserves in this region and you can track down rhinoceros, elephant and large herds of plains game among dramatic scenery. We know some truly amazing small safari retreats for your family stay, anywhere from an opulent villa with private pool to a traditional tented camp. The choice is yours.

At Africa Exclusive we long to go that bit deeper into the wilds and one of our favourite lodges on the entire continent is Tswalu. Tswau is living proof of how a fragile, exhausted semi-desert land can be restored as a place where wildlife, plants and trees can thrive. The setting is sublime, the story enthralling and the experience one that your family will be talking about for years to come.
