April

The main rains are falling across Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda so for the best game viewing head south. Victoria Falls is at its magnificent best and safaris are excellent across the Okavango Delta and the Kalahari Desert, including Tswalu in South Africa. The Cape continues to enjoy quite good weather so you might choose this quieter time to visit. KwaZulu Natal is also looking beautiful so this is a good month to visit the Drakensberg mountains and Boer and Zulu war battlefield sites.
Victoria Falls is a great natural wonder of our world, and it’s at its most powerful following the April rains. Nothing can prepare you for the scale of these waterfalls, or the noise the crashing water makes hitting the bottom of the ravine. Equally lush, and less busy, is Hwange, known for its populations of gemsbok and brown hyena. You might also climb into the Matopos Hills, ideal leopard habitat.
Namibia is at its most beautiful as the arrival of the rains brings the landscape to life. Vegetation flourishes and animals once again can feast. Take the chance to see as much of the country as possible whilst it’s in this glorious state. Consider overlanding for two weeks across Sossussvlei, Swakopmund, and Etosha. If you’ve an appetite for hiking, the walking trails of Damaraland are equally sublime.
