DISCOVER ZANZIBAR

The very name Zanzibar conjures images of bustling bazaars, of oriental edifices baking in the sun and arab dhows laden with spices lazily plying ancient trade routes. It’s a place that lives up to its reputation and a fascinating alternative coastal setting to round off your family’s safari. Teenagers will have their imaginations fired by exploring the narrow, cobbled alleyways, forts and old slave markets of this island that has thousands of years’ trading history.

If you’re thinking of a few days of relaxation after your family safari, the Kenya coast, Lamu, Mauritius, the Seychelles, the tiny islands off Mozambique and Zanzibar each has its unique appeal and something different to offer. Zanzibar is easy to reach and is a great choice for those with itchy feet and enquiring minds who want to do more than simply relax on an idyllic beach.

We know all the best places to stay on Zanzibar and one of our favourites is the exclusive Baraza with its 30 magnificent oriental villas, superb spa and water sports. On another spectrum is Chumbe Island lodge where just seven eco cottages are the only accommodation on this gorgeous little island with rich forests, ruins and carefully protected coral gardens. You might come face to face with a fearsome coconut crab on one of your forest walks!
