Downtime on safari in Tanzania

You usually go on safari early morning and late afternoon when the temperatures are cooler and the animals most active. In between, there will be plenty happening around camp to keep the children amused. After your safari, you can fly down to Zanzibar for downtime beside the ocean.

Many families return with thousands of photos. It’s a good idea to select the best and edit them during siesta time in camp. Your guide will assist with the editing and will help you produce memorable portraits and dynamic action shots. All permanent camps have electricity and battery charging. Many have WiFi.

We only use small, exclusive camps and lodges. They usually have excellent facilities, including a lounge and library where you can identify the birds, animals and trees you’ve seen on your morning game drive or walk. Many luxury camps have a pool with a view. Some even have a mini spa where you can enjoy a treatment in beautiful, relaxing surroundings.

Food is a big feature of safaris and even the remotest camps take pride in preparing amazing cuisine. Wake to the aroma of freshly baked bread. Enjoy a sizzling breakfast, light lunch with lovely salads and fruit, and afternoon tea with homemade cakes. Your children might even help make a pizza in the bush kitchen. Sometimes the camp will set up a surprise lunch or a dinner out in the bush with a campfire and lanterns suspended from the trees.

Tanzania’s long Indian Ocean shoreline has world class diving and snorkelling spots. There’s also superb deep sea fishing. Chumbe Island has a delightful nature reserve and Mafia Island is one of the best diving locations in the entire Indian Ocean. Wander the alleyways and bazaars of Zanzibar’s Old Stone Town. We know amazing beach hideaways with all the facilities you could wish for.
