EXPLORE VALLEE DE MAI NATURE RESERVE

Home to the famous coco de mer forests, Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve is a unique habitat to visit while on a luxury Seychelles holiday. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site 1983, although it has been protected as a nature reserve since 1966. This status and protection has allowed the forest to remain in excellent condition - a pristine habitat for wildlife, including the rare Seychelles Black Parrot.
The coco de mer has the largest seeds of any plant in the world and is sold both as food and as decorative items (a symbol of fertility in some cultures). They grow only in the Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve in the central hills of Praslin Island. The island is part of the Seychelles, which is an amazing and relaxing luxury beach holiday destination for those who are looking for a place to truly get back to nature without sacrificing the niceties of civilization.
While exploring the Vallée de Mai on a luxury beach holiday, you will not cease to be amazed by the plants of the area - some describe the forests as the "original Garden of Eden". You will enjoy the sites of many vulnerable and endangered species including flowering plants, ferns and epiphytes (plants that grow on other plants). One other interesting endemic palm tree species is the Palmiste - with protective "spikes" that grow out of its bark.
