Which parts of Botswana should we visit on our safari?

Botswana is a complex country of deltas, deserts and savannahs. Conditions, and the safari experience differ significantly as seasons progress throughout the year. We have 30 years’ experience arranging luxury family travel to Botswana. We know every wildlife reserve and every lodge and our team of experts understand how to create the perfect safari, whenever you choose to travel.

We believe in selecting only the best safari lodges and camps. These places are in rich wildlife areas, with excellent guides and a choice of activities. Three or four nights is an appropriate length of stay at places of this quality. Botswana is remote and has a rich variety of deltas, deserts and savannahs. In our view, it is well worth staying for at least a week, perhaps as long as ten or twelve days.

Top of our list is the Okavango Delta. There is nowhere like it in the world. During peak season it is a 5,800 square mile paradise of waterways and islands filled with wildlife. You might like to visit two contrasting areas in the Delta. The Kalahari Desert and Makgadikgadi Pans present a spectacular contrast. The northern savannah regions; Chobe, Savuti and Linyanti, are best from June to November when enormous herds gather around diminishing permanent waters.

Ask a San Bushman! The Kalahari and Makgadikgadi are fascinating. Summer rains sustain vegetation and support an amazing array of wildlife such as meerkats, hyena and the infamous black-maned lion. We can arrange for you to walk with a San Bushman as he explains ancient tracking and survival skills and the medicinal use of plants. From December to April, the rains clothe the deserts in flowers and grassland, attracting seasonal migrations and birds.

To see the biggest herds of elephant and plains game, you should visit between July andto November. During these months the plains between the Okavango and Chobe are the place to go. Botswana has over 100,000 elephant, more than any other African country. The Okavango Delta is also a superb big game area. The permanent water and rich vegetation sustains millions of animals and birds which remain there all year round.
