North Island is a strong contender for the most exclusive private island resort in the world. It has received every accolade imaginable, and was Prince William and Kate Middleton’s honeymoon destination. Only a fortunate few ever set foot here; will you be one of them?
The Seychelles is an entire archipelago of tropical paradises, but even here, North Island is something very special. The jade green palms wave above granite peaks, and below them the icing-sugar soft sand gives way to turquoise seas. More often than not, yours will be the only footsteps on the beach. The ocean here is your playground, whether you choose to dive and snorkel, kayak and stand up paddle board, swim, or simply walk along barefoot as the surf kisses the sand. Stepping back, however, North Island still has much to offer, and you can explore it on foot, by bike, or using one of the resort’s island buggies. Consider joining the conservationists at the Noah’s Ark sanctuary to learn about their vital work and meet the birds, turtles, and Aldabra giant tortoises which live there. Watching turtles nest and later hatch from the eggs is a truly magical experience.
There are only 11 villas on North Island, created from local materials, many of which were collected and upcycled when the island was being restored. The architectural style is best described as barefoot luxury, and it is executed to perfection. The woodwork seems bleached by the sun and the surf; the colour palette is completely natural. The open plan Presidential Villas have incredibly high wooden ceilings and are set along the island’s East Beach. Creamy coloured furniture sits upon polished wooden flooring, and the net-draped beds are huge. You can wander straight out to your private plunge pool on the deck, lying in the shade on a lounger.
