Chikwenya Safari Lodge
Location
Predators inevitably follow the plains game and so there are thriving populations of leopard, lion, cheetah and wild dog in the area. The Zambezi River, which, at nearly half a mile wide here, dominates the landscape, provides a home for hippo and crocodile. Those interested in birding will be in heaven in Mana Pools, with 350 species recorded here.
Accommodation
Food, often cooked over the coals with traditional Zimbabwean ingredients, is usually served outdoors, with the symphony of the bush all around. When you’re not eating or out on a game drive, relax in the camp’s lounge area or cool off in the sparkling pool.
Experiences
- Enjoy the sublimely beautiful Zambezi sunsets on a leisurely river cruise.
Accompanied by your guide, take a game drive through the woodlands and floodplains, seeking out the area’s wildlife.
Engage your senses on a nature walk along the river, looking for tracks, learning more about the local plant life and insect life.
Try your hand at fishing for the Zambezi’s famed tiger fish.
Hop into a canoe and explore the river, getting up close to the animals and birdlife that frequent the banks.
From mysterious baobab groves, to the arid sands of Hwange, the balancing rocks of Matobo, and the awesome Zambezi River as it rages over Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe is a country that serves up all that could be hoped for in an African holiday destination.
There are few other safari destinations that offer the sheer diversity of landscapes that Zimbabwe does. The cascading waters of Victoria Falls and forested banks of the Zambezi River contrast with the arid open plains of Hwange and the rugged mountain terrain of Matusadona. Together, they create a completely unique safari experience.
