Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba
Location
Nestled in the Sacred Valley of the Incas between Cusco and Machu Picchu, the property offers sweeping Andean panoramas, a pleasant climate, and proximity to picturesque villages, vibrant artisan communities, and significant archaeological sites.
Guests can immerse themselves in local culture or embark on adventure sports – including hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, and whitewater rafting – while savouring the harmonious fusion of breathtaking scenery and warm, authentic Andean hospitality.
Accommodation
Apart from the casitas, there are nine superior deluxe rooms, two junior suites, a larger Urubamba Suite, and two ‘Owner’s Quarters’ suites with room for four or six guests. The latter two options are ideal for families, or indeed for anyone craving more space and even better panoramic views from an upper storey.
For those in need of afternoon refreshment, the tradition here is to take tea. It’s certainly worth it: the hacienda has its own multi-award-winning black tea. Having benefited from tannins and antioxidants, you can have further health-enhancing experiences at the excellent Mayu Spa.
Experiences
- Enjoy a chicha de jora workshop, and you’ll learn to prepare this traditional Andean fermented corn drink through harvesting, grinding, and tasting sessions.
- Enjoy a traditional Pachamanca lunch where local ingredients are cooked in the ground. You can follow this up with a coca leaf reading by a local shaman and an ancient ritual giving thanks to Mother Earth.
- Visit the ladies of the Awamaki collective and see first-hand how traditional techniques are being kept alive through the work of one of our charity partners.
- Take a guided mountain trail walk as the sun sets while discovering Andean astronomy and the mystical transition between day and night. When you arrive back, there’ll be further stargazing on the terrace.
- Walk the Challa Huasi trail. It translates as ‘house of the viewer’, and the panoramic viewpoints are exceptional. Spot hawks, hummingbirds, and other native bird species along the way.
