Start counting the elephant in Nyerere, and you’ll quickly lose track of the number. The current best guess is that there are 110,000 of these incredible herbivorous pachyderms here, and the population, thankfully, is stable. The elephant share their peaceful homeland with rhino and hippo, gnu, eland, kudu, and hartebeest, as well as the largest population of buffalo in Africa.
As an exclusive-use camp, your family will be the only people here, giving you the chance to completely unwind and explore with the personal attention of staff and private guides.
One of the suites is complete with a children’s annex, so that you can keep your youngsters close. You’ll fall asleep and wake to the rhythm of nature, with no barrier between you and the wilderness beyond your veranda.
Vast, king-sized beds form the centrepiece of your room, with natural wood décor throughout that keeps with the natural setting outside.
Should you choose to, you can enjoy a pitstop to the natural hot springs before lunch on the river bank, watching as crocs sunbathe on the opposite shore.
Nyerere is criss-crossed with water channels and you’ll gain a completely different perspective on the reserve if you take to the water on a boat safari. This is the best way to see the hippo and crocodile up close, not to mention spotting the birds. Many of the larger animals come to the water’s edge to drink and they seem completely unconcerned at the silent presence of a boat nearby.
