Location

One of the most impressive lodges in the area, Kyambura Gorge Lodge is set on the edge of the Queen Elizabeth National Park, at the mysterious sunken forest of the Kyambura Gorge. From the perfectly appointed verandas of this beautifully restored old coffee store, you will be treated to views of the rising moon and setting sun, an expanse of lush fields filled with wildlife, and the bathing waters of the Kazinga Channel.

The Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of East Africa’s most scenically beautiful landscapes. In the west, Lakes George and Edward’s shimmering waters are linked by the wildlife-rich Kazinga Channel. As you move further east, the park transitions into open grasslands, the dense Maramagambo rainforest, and crater lakes nestled within ancient volcanic calderas.

The main area of Kyambura Gorge Lodge was once a coffee processing plant and has been thoughtfully restored into a luxurious retreat.
There's a stylish lounge and dining area serving locally inspired dishes, a cosy bar for evening drinks, and a gift shop showcasing handcrafted souvenirs that support the local community. A swimming pool and spa treatments are available for relaxation in between exploring the park.

Experiences

An excellent variety of activities is available in Queen Elizabeth National Park, from tracking chimpanzees on foot to fascinating day and evening game drives, visits to the wetland reserves in search of the park’s hundreds of bird species and relaxing boat cruises on the Kazinga Channel. There is also the opportunity to spend time visiting various local community projects.

The National Park has a very high degree of bio-diversity and supports almost 100 different mammal species and over 600 species of birds. During the troubles experienced by Uganda several decades ago a lot of the wildlife was poached but over the last twenty years it has recovered very well and there are now healthy populations of elephant, giraffe, zebra, antelope, buffalo and many other plains game.

The Kazinga Channel is said to have the world’s largest concentrations of hippopotamus. Some of the more unusual creatures include the aquatic sitatunga antelope, the beautiful Uganda kob, giant forest hogs and good numbers of primates including chimpanzees.

Conservation
Conservation
The lodge runs The Kyambura Gorge Eco-Tourism Project which has acted since 2009 to safeguard the gorge’s ecosystem. The area represents an incredibly important area for avian, primate and general wildlife biodiversity.
Community
Community
A partnership with the Jane Goodall Institute sees a community-led conservation and ecotourism development centered around the Gorge. The partnership expands community outreach programmes, enlarges a vital wildlife buffer zone, and develops further ecotourism activities.
Environment
Environment
In partnership with the Mvule Trust, the lodge’s owners constructed a tree nursery and conservation outreach programme in Kaymbura. The tree nursery aims to establish a large nursery of 400,000 indigenous trees on VSPT land adjacent to the national park. The young trees will be handed out to community members living in the National Park and also planted in the VSPT 100 acre restoration area along the Kyambura Gorge.
