Short walking trails around the ranger stations are sure to yield exciting wildlife sightings, but if you’re fit and determined, it’s well worth heading into the park’s interior. Over a challenging two-day hike, your odds of seeing Costa Rica’s big cats – and impressive birds like the endangered Harpy eagle – are greatly increased. Elsewhere on Osa, you can hike the 17-kilometre Bahia Drake trail, which is accessible only by speed boat through the mangroves.
