Playa Cativo Lodge
Location
Accommodation
Playa Cativo only has eight rooms in the lodge, all of which are expansive and ocean-facing through large panoramic windows, with further casita houses – each with private plunge pools – dotted through the grounds.
You’ll find an open-sided lounge, bar, and restaurant looking out into the forest, a library, a gorgeous swimming pool and a yoga deck between the beach and the creek under the canopy of the trees. If trees, fresh air, seawater and solitude aren’t enough for rejuvenation, the lodge has the ‘Lotus Spa’.
Dining Experience
Dishes here are imaginative and authentic, and – not surprisingly, given the isolation of the lodge – make full use of the organic kitchen garden. Our tip is to grab a table as close to the encircling vegetation as possible and come prepared with binoculars for the bird life
Experiences & Activities
- The lodge provides plenty of information for you to venture out on self-guided trails around the adjacent forest. If you want, we can also arrange for a guide who knows the best places to look for elusive animals.
- There are kayaks and paddleboards to borrow; perfect for enjoying Golfo Dulce and the river.
- Exploring adjacent Blancas National Park you’ll be able to look for 350 species of birds, 750 species of trees, 140 species of mammals, 115 of reptiles and almost 10,000 species of insects.
- At the right time of year, this is a great place to take to the sea to spot humpback whales. Whatever the month, there are always dolphins to see.
- Sport fishing, longer kayak excursions and scuba diving are also on offer. Perhaps opt for a castaway beach picnic or a meal by a rainforest waterfall.
- One of the lodge’s staff will gladly take you on a tour of the alternative energy setup, instruct you in hand fishing, or show you the organic farm.
- You can take advantage of the mindful movement sessions each morning and, at the other end of the day, venture out in the dark to spot frogs and other nocturnal wildlife.
