Mwaleshi Camp
Wildlife viewing is excellent here; keep your eye out for elephant, giraffe, wild dog, lion, zebra, hippo, and antelope.
You’ll have everything you might need for a comfortable safari including a soft bed and an en-suite bathroom with a flushing toilet and outdoor bucket shower. Each morning a pitcher of warm water arrives for washing. The chalets themselves are made of reeds and deconstructed at the end of every season (the camp is only open for a select few months per year).
The chefs at Mwaleshi are talented, creative and resourceful. Working with an open fire, an old cast-iron stove and an earth oven, they create sublime dishes. Think meals made with fruits and vegetables grown in the gardens at Mwaleshi’s nearby sister camp, and comforting desserts, freshly baked bread and cakes. Enjoy dinner as you take in the sunset, surrounded by atmospheric spirit lamps, blanketed in the sounds of bird calls and the rustlings of the bush.
- In a no-car zone; surrounded by remote wilderness; and accompanied by some of Africa’s very best guides, walking here, following the tracks and trails left by wildlife, is an unforgettable adventure.
- Cool off from the heat of the day with a refreshing paddle or a dip in the river.
- With over 400 recorded species, many with spectacularly colourful and vibrant plumage, the area is blissful for avid birders and non-birders alike.
- For the most adventurous traveller, a sleepout is the perfect way to immerse yourself in the safari experience. You’ll sleep under canvas in a temporary camp right in the middle of the bush, the chirps of cicadas interrupted only by the faraway whoops of calling hyena.
