Location

Namiri Plains Camp sits on the Ngare Nanyuki River in Soit Le Motony, a remote corner of the central‑eastern Serengeti that was closed for two decades to protect cheetahs. Today, it’s a sanctuary where lion prides roam, cheetahs sprint and leopards laze. “Namiri” means big cat in Swahili, and this is truly their kingdom.

Spectacular grassy plains ripple to the horizon, punctuated by fever trees, acacias, and rocky kopjes. Secluded and isolated, about an hour from any other camp, it offers intimate encounters: lions roaring at night, wildebeest grazing nearby, a water source shimmering before camp, and the spectacle of the Great Migration from October to May.

Accommodation
You’ve just had a magical day on safari and checked your photos in the camp’s media room. Sure enough, you’ve captured images of your dreams: cheetahs surveying the great plains of the Serengeti, a pride of lions on the move. It’s time to rinse off the dust of the day and sink into a deep, indulgent bath. No commonplace tub, this one sits out on the veranda of your luxury tent, where the horizon stretches away and the sounds of the wild drift in.

There are eleven tents in total at Namiri Plains Camp, including one designed for families, each a gorgeous, spacious, contemporary retreat. Their silhouettes are defined by multi‑peaked canvas awnings, while volcanic rock walls and raised decks lend permanence and solidity.
Huge sliding doors open onto private verandas, and inside you’ll find opulent ensuite bathrooms and interiors that balance modern design with the romance of safari discovery. We love the thoughtful extras such as umbrellas and boots, along with a walkie-talkie to summon the ‘Zebra Uber’ transport if you’d rather have company heading to dinner.

Head to the communal area and you’ll find a stylish hub with deep sofas, an inviting bar, and a broad deck overlooking wildlife that often wanders close by. Neutral tones, natural materials and a mix of contemporary and traditional art create spaces that feel both eye-catching and harmonious.

Other facilities include a swimming pool with a prime position for game viewing, an indulgent spa area, and a library and information-media space to learn about the ecosystem you have come to observe. As for food, you’ll enjoy a dining experience honed by Alisia across all its camps in East Africa: generous portions, fresh ingredients, delicious flavours, superb service, unforgettable atmosphere.

Experiences

  • Enjoy superb safari experiences on twice-daily game drives. You’re in an area renowned for its large population of big cats, and a dependable location for superb Great Migration scenes.
  • For photographs worthy of National Geographic, you’ll appreciate the camp’s dedicated photographic vehicle. With swivel seats and a drop-down side for those low-angle shots, you’ll come away with awesome images.
  • Take to the blushing pink dawn skies in a hot air balloon. To drift over the Serengeti in quiet elegance is an unmissable experience.
  • See if you can find the rare melanistic serval that prowls the plains here. It’s named Manja, after the Namiri guide who first spotted him.
  • The walking safaris at Namiri Plains are excellent. With few vehicle tracks in this area, this is the way to get deep into the territory.
  • Treat yourself to some indulgent time in the camp. Between safari outings, soak in the pool or your tub, or have a massage in the spa.

Conservation
Conservation
Namiri Plains was established in an area closed for 20 years to allow cheetah populations to recover. Today, it supports ongoing big cat research and monitoring, helping safeguard lions, cheetahs, and other predators while maintaining the Serengeti’s ecological balance.
Community
Community
Asilia Africa, the parent company of Namiri Plains Camp, invests in vulnerable wilderness areas to create viable conservation economies. Guests contribute a nightly levy that directly benefits local communities, supporting education, livelihoods, and long‑term partnerships that ensure people living alongside wildlife share in tourism’s rewards.
Environment
Environment
The camp operates on 100% solar power with backup generation, minimising its ecological footprint in this fragile ecosystem. Built with natural materials and designed for low‑impact tourism, it demonstrates Asilia’s commitment to sustainability and harmony with the Serengeti environment.
