Location
Nestled in the hills of La Fortuna in Costa Rica, and adjacent to its sister property, the adults-only Nayara Springs, Nayara Tented camp sits in the geothermal fields of the ever-present spectacle of Arenal Volcano.
Accommodation
Forget the flapping flysheet of your childhood holidays; the 32 safari-style tents of Nayara Tented Camp, set on stilts for wonderful views, are a different species of accommodation. Yes, the fabric walls and canopy ceiling give you the sense of being under canvas, complete with the ever-present sounds of nature, but you will living in better style than a Roman Emperor on campaign. The American ash canopy beds are huge, there are daybeds, desks and window seats, along with a cavernous black and gold bath in a decadent bathroom. But why bathe indoors when you have an outdoor geothermally-heated infinity plunge pool on your deck? From your hammock or lounger, or through the huge sliding windows, you will gaze out into the lush forest and beyond to beautiful Arenal Volcano.

The soil and climate of Costa Rica have done the rest. The next step in the vision was to start to plant more than 1,000 Cecropia trees thus creating the ideal habitat for the sloths of the property’s sloth sanctuary. When you wander the grounds, listen for rustling leaves and look up; there will be a sloth somewhere, being slow and deceptively hard to see.
Dining options abound at Nyara Tented Camp, both immediately on-site and through the proximity of the restaurants and bars at the associated Nyara Springs and Nyara Gardens. You will be able to savour Costa Rican dishes made from ingredients grown on the lush local soils, or opt for more international dishes. Perhaps most appropriate to the tented experience is the Argentinian-themed barbeque restaurant.

- Trekking over the lava fields at the base of the cone of Arenal, you will be given an expert account of the area’s exciting geological setting.
- Thrill-seekers will love a day at Sky Adventures Arenal with its ziplines, suspension bridges and cable car, all of which put you amidst the canopy of the rainforest. Another adrenaline-fueled day can be spent rafting on the Sarapiqui River.
