Liuwa Plains

Liuwa Plain National Park is a special place. Wildlife here was nearly eradicated due to poaching and hunting, but the area has been protected since 2003 and nature is bouncing back. Liuwa Plain National Park is a special place. Wildlife here was nearly eradicated due to poaching and hunting, but the area has been protected since 2003 and nature is bouncing back.
Why Liuwa Plains?
The landscape here is plains and wetlands that culminate in supreme beauty. Eland and buffalo thrive in this environment, as do cheetah, hyena and several prides of lion. During the May to November dry season, you can witness Africa’s second-largest migration of wildebeest and zebra right here in Liuwa. Given the wetlands, Liuwa is also a paradise for birdwatchers. See huge flocks of cranes, storks and pelicans among more than 300 species of birds across this remote park.

Because Liuwa sees so few visitors, animals may be shy and more difficult to spot. As with the North Luangwa, it’s worth your time and patience to experience a place of true wilderness. You can connect with people here, too, by meeting members of the local Lozi community.
  • Remote plains and wetlands.
  • Annual migration of 30,000 blue wildebeest and zebra.
  • 334 species of birds including grey-crowned cranes and storks.
  • Cultural encounters with Lozi people.
  • Small number of visitors creates an exclusive experience.
  • Best game viewing from May to November.

Safari in Zambia: Remote & Private

Zambia is the path less-travelled, which means that a safari here is always one with guaranteed privacy. It’s also an experience of how African exploration always used to be, with bush camps deep in game-rich territory and walking safaris led by expert guides. Authenticity can still be comfortable, so amazing food and perfectly-placed accommodation are just as Zambian as the wilderness.
