Location
Set in more than 500 hectares of rich tropical dry forest, the Four Seasons Peninsula Papagayo resort occupies an isthmus – the narrowest point of Peninsula Papagayo – between two private golden-sand beaches. On one side are the sheltered waters of a Pacific coast bay, and on the other are the open water views of Santa Rosa National Park.

Accommodation
The resort is airy and open, giving guests the benefits of breezes and the sounds of birds and howler monkeys. A subtle fire and water theme informs the colour palette of all communal areas, along with natural features such as a lush moss art wall set amidst the naturalistic soft curves of the buildings and garden architecture. There’s a lot of stone, bamboo and even some recycled plastic.

There are 182 bright guest rooms and suites, complete with colourful art, hardwood flooring and bamboo furniture. You will have a spacious and luxurious bathroom, along with large windows showcasing the superb forest or ocean views (often both). If you treat yourself to a suite, you will find it built on stilts, appearing to float in the trees.
As for eating, you will have five restaurants to pick from. Guests seem to congregate at Bahia, an all-day wood fired kitchen, but those with fine-dining aspirations will be more tempted by the Italian seafood at Pesce. The dining options aren’t the only example of luxurious plenitude, for there are four swimming pools, a 28 room spa, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, five tennis courts, and an 18-hole Arnold Palmer championship golf course.

Experiences
  • Within the grounds, communal areas and beaches of the resort, you can have Latin dance, chocolate-making or cookery classes.
  • Try snorkelling, kayaking or paddle boarding in the warm Pacific waters.
  • Join a nocturnal wildlife tour led by a wildlife expert to see the abundant wildlife of the dark hours.
  • Take a surf trip to the legendary place known as Witch’s Rock.
  • A Costa Rican adventure is not complete without a day at sea. We recommend a catamaran for space and stability while you spot dolphins, manta rays and sea turtles.
  • Indulge in an adrenalin-soaked day ziplining through the forests inland from the peninsula.

Amongst various sustainability initiatives in place at Four Seasons Resort Peninsula Papagayo (FSRPP) is their commitment to careful water stewardship. They have reduced their overall water footprint significantly since making calculations in 2019 and are committed to treating 100% of the water used to reuse for irrigation.

FSRPP have invested into four different research projects from coral reef and sea grass restoration to wildlife monitoring. These projects have given insight into the 268 terrestrial and 68 marine fauna identified within the location and provide a way of ensuring they remain happy and healthy.

The boutique shop features handcrafted items made by indigenous artists, local artisans and artists feature throughout the resort and 68% of all suppliers are local people. Amongst the boost to the local economy, these practices give local people a platform to showcase their skills and help keep traditions alive!
