Location
Mhondoro Game Lodge is situated in the Welgevonden Game Reserve, 2.5 hours’ drive north of Johannesburg.
Accommodation
Recently fully rebuilt and refurbished, the lodge accommodates guests in five imaginatively designed luxury suites, each with a spacious lounge, bedroom, en suite bathroom, and veranda providing views across miles of pristine bush.
The lodge design also includes some spectacular features including a unique 60m tunnel leading directly from the lodge down to an eye level viewing chamber at the waterhole, allowing for some incredible photographic opportunities.
For larger families or groups there is a Mhondoro Private Villa sleeping up to six which has its own lounge, kitchen, pool, gym, private chef, private guide, and vehicle.

Community
An excellent education is not readily available in Africa, in fact, young children in Africa do not always get the opportunities they deserve. This is a complex issue that is difficult to solve on a large scale however, much can be done when addressing a small, geographically targeted group. Mhondoro’s exciting community project; Mhondoro Wilderness School gives children the chance at an education in their younger years.
Conservation
Rhinos are highly persecuted and poached for their horns. As a rhino sanctuary, Welgevonden Game Reserve is proud of its world-class anti-poaching programme, designed to ensure that the rhinos residing within it are protected and remain as safe as possible.
Community
The school concentrates on teaching essential skills including Maths, English and Bush skills following the International Kumon Programmes. Math classes aim at developing initial essential skills, including counting, writing numbers, mental calculations and even addition and subtraction. The English programme starts pre-readers off with a fun “look, listen and repeat” worksheets. Colourful illustrations help connect words to familiar objects, to start putting words together. From here the child will progress to identify nouns, verbs and adjectives, and use them within sentences. Bush skills and other subjects follows the Field Guides Association of South Africa workbooks that are specifically created for young children.
