Location

Nayara Hangaroa is on the west coast of Easter Island, near the island’s only town of Hanga Roa. You could easily stroll to see the local shops and market should you wish to sample a flavour of the community that inhabits one of the most remote islands in the world. The site of the hotel faces out over the ocean, overlooking the rocky and rugged volcanic coastline. If you were to set off in a boat from here, the next chance of seeing a human would not be for another 1,200 miles.

Accommodation

All of the hotel’s 75 spacious rooms have terraces and views of the ocean. The earthy tones and curved features, even down to hand-made bathtubs, create an organic feel that sits perfectly with the unique geography of the island. Floor-to-ceiling windows will allow you to engage with the ever-changing light and sea conditions. All parts of Nayara Hangaroa are single-floor, enabling the hotel to blend into the landscape, aided by its curves, grass roofs and extensive use of natural materials such as reclaimed tree trunks and local stone.

The facilities for recharging your batteries after daytime excursions are numerous: in addition to having what is reputed to be the largest swimming pool on the island, the hotel also has massage and treatment rooms, a salt sauna, hot tubs and a hydrotherapy pool. Exhausted, yet relaxed, your next appointment would be at one of the two hotel restaurants, both of which offer indoor and outdoor dining.

Nayara Hangaroa is the base for a greater range of excursions by vehicle, foot, boat, bike and even horse than other hotels on the island.

Visit some of the 900 mysterious volcanic stone statues (Moais) that make Easter Island so famous. Sunrise and sunset excursions are available if you have the energy.

Appreciate the inspiration for the design of your hotel by visiting Orongo ceremonial village on its dramatic location atop barren sea cliffs that plunge more than 300m into the Pacific. The site was the centre of the birdman cult.

Enjoy hiking, perhaps to the Poike reforested park, or the Ara Moai volcanic crater.

Explore the coastal environment, the location of many of the moai; take a swim in crystal-clear waters, perhaps taking the opportunity of a snorkelling or diving adventure.

Tailored excursions are available, including surfing, wood carving classes, bird watching, cooking and a visit to a local beekeeper.
