Location
The Palacia Astoreca can be found in Valparaiso’s most historic neighbourhood; the steeply cobbled and charming Cerro Alegre (Happy Hill). Full of brightly painted buildings and retaining a well-loved funicular, this district has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status.
Accommodation
This impressive hotel looks grand from the street, and is equally impressive inside. Palacio Astoreca has 23 rooms; and provide all you could wish for. The rooms are large and boast huge windows giving unparalleled views of Valparaíso’s bay. Stylish decor and modern comfort juxtapose old-time Chilean charm. We always love parquet floors and tongue-and-groove panelling.
If you are in need of further relaxation there is a luxurious spa and wellness centre with a lovely swimming pool and wooden hot tub. For the more cerebral, there is a cosy hotel library to lose yourself in a book. The staff are helpful and will happily point you in the direction of all the nearby sites and attractions.
The Alegre restaurant offers the best in avant-garde cuisine, and tables fill up fast. Given the hotel’s location on the coast, seafood is a frequent ingredient. All dishes contain locally sourced products and Chilean cuisine is deservedly presented with pride. We suggest trying the Charquicán stew. Guests are encouraged to explore the hotel’s wine cellar and select a bottle of Chile’s finest to accompany their meal. The hotel bar has live piano music on certain evenings and it’s a lively spot for locals as much as guests.
