Location

Set on the border of the Lemek and Mara North Conservancies, Saruni Wild is surrounded by thousands of acres of beautiful, unspoilt African wilderness. Both of these are private conservancies, meaning numbers of visitors are limited and you’ll avoid the safari crowds that frequent the national parks. You’ll be surrounded by the iconic rolling Masai Mara plains, known for their breathtaking glowing red sunsets and home to huge numbers of wildlife. Lion, leopard and cheetah all roam the Mara, hunting the ubiquitous plains game - zebra, antelope and wildebeest, to name just a few - that graze here. You can also see giraffe, warthog, and elephant in the area too.

Authentic Tented Experience

There are just five spacious tented suites, offering an authentic under-canvas experience. Proper beds, hand-carved safari furniture and an en-suite bathroom ensure your comfort in the wilds of the Masai Mara. With a super king-size bed and two twin beds, the family tent is perfect for a family of four. Enjoy delicious family meals around the campfire or in the dining tent, which doubles as a lounge. The valley and its wildlife is exclusive to the guests of Saruni Wild, making it one of Kenya’s best private safari experiences.
As the camp is situated on a private conservancy, there is plenty of opportunity to take part in a variety of activities that wouldn’t be possible if staying within the reserve itself. Game drives during the day and at night are a must and are the best way to get up close and personal to all of the big game in the region. You will be accompanied by a knowledgeable Maasai guide who will use their expertise to ensure that you enjoy the ultimate African safari experience. The Maasai also take care of you in camp, adding local colour and interest as well as ensuring your safety and comfort.

Train Like A Maasai

The whole family will love Saruni’s Warriors Academy, a special interactive safari with a strong educational flavour. This fun experience teaches your children what it is like to grow up as a Maasai warrior. Under the tutelage of your Maasai guides, get to know and understand these unique people and see the Kenyan bush from a new perspective. Learn traditional survival skills: how to track wildlife, shoot bows and arrows, and even build a bush camp!

What You'll See At Saruni Wild

The Mara is renowned for its abundant wildlife and you are sure to see elephant, giraffe, and prowling cats. Explore the vast, golden plains at your own pace on private game drives and walking safaris. Coinciding perfectly with school holidays, the Great Migration floods the area each year from July to November. Enjoy a private view of dramatic river crossings, peaceful drives amongst a million grazing wildebeest, and wrap up your adventures with a sundown dinner in the bush.

Conservation
Conservation
Saruni Wild’s conservancy mission is to fund the Lemek Conservency encouraging its 480 local landowners to protect the environment and wildlife that resides within it. Together with the landowners, Saruni are the custodians of one of the regions with the highest density of wildlife in the world: with the help of guests – and their payment of conservation fees – they ensure that this jewel is protected for the future generations.
Environment
Environment
The camp holds itself to the highest environmental standards. They have implemented solar power, collection and storage of rain water, use of biodegradable cleaning products, correct disposal of toxic waste, recycling and the elimination of most plastic bottles. The building’s design is centred around subtlety, fully integrating itself into the landscape. As a result, Saruni Wild’s footprint is very small.
Community
Community
85%-90% of all staff members at Saruni Wild are employed from local communities, all of which are given high-level training leading to low staff turnover and passionate individuals who, Saruni admit, are key to their success.

What Really Matters to Young Children on a Kenya Safari

I have spent the last 18 years travelling to some of the planet’s most incredible places under the guise of ‘work’. For 11 of those, I have been waiting for my young family to be old enough to join me. In October 2022, that time finally came. Our first family safari in Kenya was perhaps even more special as, like many holidays, it had been postponed twice due to the COVID pandemic but, wow, was it worth the wait!
