Conservation
Conservation
The area surrounding Sasaab holds one of the largest remaining populations of grevys zebra on earth and the camp partners with the Grevy’s Zebra Trust to help conserve and protect this stunning and unfortunately endangered zebra subspecies.
Environment
Environment
Every year Sasaab’s parent company; The Safari Collection, plants trees in carefully chosen areas supporting vital water catchments and where indigenous forests are in need of reforestation and protection. Since 2019, Sasaab has become their first fully carbon negative lodge. It plants enough trees to absorb more carbon dioxide than the lodge and all its activities produce, making it a climate positive property.
Community
Community
As part of the conservancy within which the camp resides, Sasaab protects a core area dedicated to wildlife conservation and predominantly employs its staff directly from the local community. Since Sasaab opened it has put over one million dollars back into the Westgate Community Conservancy to help them with their own projects including security, roads, schools, clinics and general management.
