Location

Perched on a bluff on the outer edge of a meander on the Sands River, Singita Ebony is located in the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve on the western border of the Kruger National Park. Guests here have access to more than 18,000 hectares of an environment renowned for its high concentration of big game, particularly leopard sightings. It’s a Big Five location, with black rhino to seek out.

While it is possible to get to the camp by land transport, it’s easier to fly to the dedicated airstrip, just ten minutes away.

Accommodation

Spread along the riverbank are 12 spacious luxury suites, eight of which are one-bedroom and four of which are perfect for larger groups. The two dedicated family suites can be booked separately, or they can be combined into an exclusive villa, discreetly secluded and with the benefit of a dedicated staff team, vehicle and guide.

Having established themselves at this location back in 1993, this is an important part of Singita’s history, and you can tell that they have continued to have fun curating it into something of a fascinating statement.
With curved adobe architecture, complemented by stone, wood, canvas and thatch, spaces are full of curiosities and art. Indeed, there’s a dedicated ‘Conservation Room’ with artefacts, books and objects to spark the imagination.

Each of the rooms has a private pool, an open double-sided fireplace, indoor and outdoor showers and a viewing deck. The four-poster beds may invite you to laze around, but there’s plenty to do, not least around the camp. Stroll along the suspended wooden walkways, and you’ll discover the shady communal pool, a spa, a gym, an interactive kitchen and an outdoor boma for those evening fireside chats.

Breakfast is served on the lower deck by the river, and evening meals, up by the fire pit, are often accompanied by a Shangaan choir.

For Families

Singita Ebony has a bespoke Mini Game Rangers’ Course which is specifically designed to teach youngsters skills such as tracking and outdoor survival skills. They learn to identify birds, mammals and plants while on bush walks. Back at base, there are activities such as astronomy, board games, swimming, quizzes, arts and crafts, cookery and movies. There’s never a dull moment for even the most enquiring of minds.
