Explora Patagonia

As it was the very first luxury hotel to open in Patagonia, Explora Torres del Paine is an undeniable part of South American history. It is also a place of polished expertise when helping guests to get the most out of its impressive location. It is the only luxury hotel in the area to be open year-round, so it is ideal for a cozy winter interlude. Location
Guests staying at this hotel can take pride in the fact that this is the only luxury hotel located within the Torres del Paine National Park. You will have the most iconic view of the entire famous chain of mountains reflected in the vivid blue Lake Pehoé, and have access to a whole host of opportunities right on your doorstep.

Accommodation
The 49 rooms (of which 6 are suites) feature panoramic windows displaying the types of view which almost look too good to be true. Gaze out at a landscape of precipitous peaks, of the Salto Chico waterfall, blazing skies and a blue lake from the comfort of a room with beech flooring, wicker furniture and calming tones.

After your daytime adventures, relaxation is assured in one of the four open-air hot tubs, all with views of the lake and mountains. The spa which adjoins the hotel has a covered heated pool, massage room and a sauna.
Having re-invigorated and re-charged, the restaurant will re-fuel you after your explorations. Portions are substantial enough to satisfy the outdoor enthusiast whilst being light enough to guarantee a good sleep in the peace of this exceptional location.

Dishes in the restaurant feature quality local ingredients and a superb range of Chilean wines. We recommend trying the Magellanic Lamb.

Experiences
  • Why not use the lodge as the base for the three main sections of the famous “W” trek through the heart of the national park? Less strenuous walks are available, of course, and you won’t be deprived of views whatever option you take.

  • Take the hotel’s private catamaran direct to the French Valley trailhead, heading to the Grey Glacier.
  • The hotel has its own stables and specially-bred horses. Expert guides can cater for all levels of horse-riding ability.

  • Learn about local life by spending time with gauchos, perhaps sharing their authentic local version of a BBQ, known as a “Quincho”.

  • Take a vehicle tour with an expert local guide who will show you the wonders of the wildlife, scenery and culture of the area.

Environment
Environment
Alongside their determination to use mostly organic and biodegradable cleaning products, the lodge is almost entirely constructed from local and recycled materials. Patagonia Park itself is also moving toward becoming a 100% renewable energy powered park which will make it the first energy-independent park in the world.
Conservation
Conservation
After years of agricultural activity, the ecosystem surrounding the lodge had been damaged and many endemic species had disappeared. Doug and Kris Tompkins, US outdoor clothing moguls and philanthropists who have the aim of creating a new national park set about turning this around. As a result of their efforts, guanaco once again roam free here, a great example of the associated ecosystem that is beginning to return.
Community
Community
The long-term aim of the national park’s project is to hand all of this land and infrastructure over to the Chilean government as a national park for the future. Doug and Kris include local communities in their venture, creating a sustainable park that supports both local wildlife and the former ranch employees.
