An idyllic antidote to the rush of modern life

Winelands

Within a two-hour radius of Cape Town are the Cape Winelands. Settled some 300 years ago by Huguenot farmers fleeing persecution in Europe, many of today’s independent wine estates still bear their names. Why the Winelands?
The vineyards sit in picturesque valleys, soaking up the South African sun from above and the nutrients of the fertile soil below. Thanks to the temperate, Mediterranean climate of the Winelands, the region is suitable for visits year-round – and you can always count on great wine.

Drive along winding roads flanked by craggy mountaintops to the Francophile village of Franschhoek, known as the food and wine capital of the Cape. Here you’ll find world class wines and French-inspired cuisine inside cosy bistros, though it’s hard to go wrong anywhere in the Winelands. The welcoming wine estates, charming small towns and opportunities to walk, cycle or ride horses through historic vineyards are sure to provide a relaxing respite from daily life.
  • One of the world’s great wine producing regions.
  • Many wine estates are hundreds of years old.
  • Charming villages with individual character.
  • Excellent dining throughout the Winelands.
  • Opportunities for walking, cycling and horse riding.
  • WIthin two hours of Cape Town.
  • Suitable for self-driving.
