Lodo Springs
Staying here feels both indulgent and purposeful: a place where sophisticated comfort meets a landscape shaped by meaningful stewardship.
Location
Established in the 1970s and handed to the Loisaba Community Trust in 2014, the Loisaba Conservancy covers more than 20,000 hectares of prime Ewaso ecosystem. It’s a mosaic of open plains, escarpments, rocky kopjes and scrubby hills that supports a profusion of wildlife. This ranges from elephants and lions to Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, wild dogs, a spectacular array of birdlife, and now rhinos too.
Accommodation
Gone are the days when tents meant roughing it. At Lodo Springs, you’ll still hear the sounds of the bush through canvas, but the front of the tents is a full-length wall of sliding glass doors. They flood the space with light and open onto a wide deck where you’ll be in two minds as to whether to lounge on it or spend your time with binoculars watching the wildlife in the valley below.
If you’re out on a game drive, breakfast is served from a mobile cooking station. Back at base, it’s a relaxed buffet affair. Lunches can also be out in the wilds or a tapas-style feast at the lodge. In the evening, with everyone back from adventures, the menu is exquisite and paired with excellent wines. We suggest trying the Kenyan-made cheese.
Experiences
- Home to Kenya’s second largest population of elephant and excellent numbers of wild dog, Loisaba is perfect for exciting game drives both day and night.
- Try out some more adventurous safari activities including bush walks, fishing trips, mountain biking and exploring on horseback, or even atop a camel!
- Visit the Loisaba Conservancy Head Quarters to learn more about the latest research and conservation concepts.
- Spend time with the elite anti-poaching tracker dog unit and observe them carrying out an exercise.
- The camp has its own helipad, so perhaps get above it all for even more spectacular views.

From the Team
“When I went to the Loisaba Conservancy, I saw first-hand how vital the area is as a corridor for the elephant population. It’s also home to Kenya’s largest and most stable lion population. The highlight of my trip, however, was to witness the arrival of a relocated rhino.”

I have spent the last 18 years travelling to some of the planet’s most incredible places under the guise of ‘work’. For 11 of those, I have been waiting for my young family to be old enough to join me. In October 2022, that time finally came. Our first family safari in Kenya was perhaps even more special as, like many holidays, it had been postponed twice due to the COVID pandemic but, wow, was it worth the wait!
