Location
Moved once every five days, Chobe Under Canvas takes root on secluded campsites close to the riverbanks of the Chobe River, which winds its way along the border of the 11,700 kilometre squared Chobe National Park. Comprising reed-filled floodplains, dense woodland and winding rivers, the reserve has a diverse range of habitats attracting an equally varied assortment of wildlife.

Accommodation
Five spacious, walk-in tents form the basis of Chobe Under Canvas. Each comfortable yet traditional tent has cosy furnishings, double or twin beds and its own en-suite complete with hot-bucket shower. At the front of each tent a small porch houses a pair of deckchairs and a table, great to relax in as you reflect on a day of exploration.
An open-sided marquee forms the camp’s main area. Here, you’ll join others staying at the camp around a candlelit table to quench your thirst with an ice cold drink; play one of the many board games on offer; and savour delicious meals cooked over the roaring fire. Once you’ve had your fill, retire around the campfire to share stories of your day beneath the African sky awash with thousands of gleaming stars.

Experiences
  • A permanent waterway, the Chobe River and its floodplains are a magnet for diverse wildlife all year round. From giraffe and antelope to buffalo and hippo, mammals are abundant, as is birdlife with 450 species sighted in the area.

  • Chobe National Park holds the world’s largest remaining population of elephants, giving you the chance to enjoy an unforgettable experience watching hundreds of the gentle giants thundering down to the water’s edge to drink, swim and wash themselves after wandering through the parched bush.
  • Trust in your professionally trained guide to lead you to the wildlife on exhilarating morning and afternoon drives through the park's game-rich landscapes.

  • Gain a different perspective and take to the Chobe River for a boat safari. With eight 360 degree swivel chairs and plenty of space for camera equipment, the experience offers incredible opportunities for wildlife close-ups - both in person and on camera.

  • Enjoy refreshing cocktails and canapés on a leisurely sundowner cruise, watching as the sun fades in a spectacle of blush and orange, and the wildlife emerge in the cooler evening air.

Conservation
Conservation
To ensure interest and understanding of conservation begins at a young age, Chobe Under Canvas’ parent company &Beyond invite children from local villages to the reserves to spend time with their guides and learn about different species of wildlife and why they should be protected. This education helps prevent future human–wildlife conflict and creates an awareness of the importance of the wildlife in Botswana.
Environment
Environment
As a semi-permanent mobile camp, Chobe Under Canvas’ impact on the environment is minimal. All power is sourced through state-of-the-art solar panels, food is cooked over coals and bucket showers in each tent allows the camp to operate as efficiently as possible.
Community
Community
Guests staying at Chobe Under Canvas will be helping to contribute to &Beyond’s partnership with Africa Foundation. This initiative supports projects throughout Botswana and across Africa. These focus on providing and improving education, healthcare, community development projects and business start-ups.

The best way to give your family the facilities it seeks may be to book out an entire camp or lodge. Perhaps you are planning a multi-generation safari. Or you may want to fulfil a dream of walking, mokoroing and camping out in the Okavango. You may simply crave an extra degree of privacy. Most lodges we use take fewer than 16 guests, some take only eight, so booking a whole lodge is a viable option.
